Gordon Haber

Gordon Haber is an American writer, editor, and publisher based in Queens, New York. Before turning seriously to writing, he worked in graphic design. He received an MFA in writing from Columbia University in 2002, and later earned a Fulbright Fellowship to Poland, where he spent a year travelling and writing about Polish life, literature and Polish-Jewish relations. He has also been a resident at the MacDowell Colony and at the Toji Cultural Centre in South Korea.

His nonfiction writing on religion and culture has appeared in Arc, The Commons, The Forward, Religion Dispatches, and Salon. His short fiction has been published by The Normal School, Cagibi, Necessary Fiction, and The Short Story Project. Much of his writing has explored Jewish identity, family, masculinity, and the experience of contemporary American life.

Haber has taught at Columbia University, Compton College, and the School of The New York Times, and he has worked for nonprofits that support Jewish arts and culture. In 2015, he co-founded Dutch Kills Press, an independent publishing house.

He is married to the playwright, screenwriter, and filmmaker Brooke Berman. They live in New York with their son.
