About the book
Jane Reid spent 20 years accompanying her diplomat husband on postings to Burma, Guyana, Romania, Malawi, South Africa and Jamaica, continuing a pattern of travelling that began during her childhood and reflected her parents’ postings. In this memoir she remembers her grandparents’ homes in the Birmingham suburbs, pre-war winters in Sudan, and life in the West Country—including a primitive cottage in a remote fishing village, a farm near Bristol and seven long years at St Christopher’s School in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset. Her story is presented as amusing, poignant and beautifully observed.
